Beyond Transactional Narratives of Agency: Peer Consultants’ Antiracist Professionalization

Social justice movements, especially Black Lives Matter, inspired many writing center administrators to reflect on their commitments antiracism and engage with antiracist professional development staff. However, there is continued need study the impact has consultants’ ability practice in sessions. This article presents a predominantly white institution (PWI) center’s attempt do this work, particular emphasis how complicates portrayals of consultant agency within center. The analyzes qualitative data collected from reflective writing, survey, interview responses. Results illustrate that, context enacting beyond center, consultants showed messy, partial, incomplete forms curriculum impacting color differently. These findings suggest studies must embrace an understanding that reflective, fragmented, iterative, identify more concrete practices consulting.
